Street Fair Amusement Ride

Another image from the 99th Annual Ephrata Fair in Lancaster County. The bright sun easily illuminated the amusement ride against the blue sky. This one will be added to my stock image portfolio.

From the ABC7 News of Los Angles website:

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Local news photographer Hans Gutknecht captured the homeless in Los Angeles in 50 pictures, each with a different message.

Each subject wrote a note in their own words on a whiteboard sign, allowing them to share more about themselves in a personal way.

Adding More Traditional Website Features to My Blogger Site

I've been able to add some more traditional Website features here on my Blogger site, allowing me to customize the look and feel. Since my plan is to use this as my main site - www.georgesheldon.com - there are certain customizations I wanted to make.  It has been easy to add:

  • My logo - now on the main page in the column.
  • Contact forum - I added to the column using a widget, but I wanted it on its own page. So I copied the code, and placed it on its own page, which I called Contact,
  • About me page - easy to add, I just need to add more bio information about me.
  • Footer text - another easy to add the feature. I was also able to add a referral link to Shutterstock in that area.
  • Menu - I wanted to add the feature, and sure enough, there is a widget for that.

Adding these extras is beginning to make this site feel like a regular hosted website.  I am surprised how easy it has been to implement these little features.

So far, I am happy with the Blogger platform and have not found a reason yet to abandon it as my www.georgesheldon.com website.

Photographer Traveling World for Free

 CNN Traveling Freelance Photographer

CNN has a story about a photographer traveling the world - for free. According to the article, the photographer had very little experience, and started without a portfolio.

From the story:

"I didn't know how to be a photographer or to support myself as a photographer," he says. "But this was a concept that allowed me to pursue it full time, and travel and work for myself."

Additional Domains Pointing to www.georgeshedon.com

I have added my other two domains - www,gergesheldon.net and www.georgesheldon.org - to forward and point to www.georgesheldon.com.  A relatively easy process on Godaddy.com - just matter of pointing those domains to my primary one, which is now associated here to my Blogger account.

Still Experimenting with Blogger as My Primary Site

Can the Blogger platform serve as my primary website?

After many years of maintaining my own website - from HTML, CSS, WordPress, and working my way from small hosting companies to the large ones, I am taking a new direction. I am trying to adapt to the Blogger platform - and to allow it to be my primary web presence.

I will probably have more to say about this over the next several weeks - and why I opted to do this - but so far, everything is going well.  Yesterday, I was able to quickly and easily forward my primary domain to my Blooger account.  It only took a few moments, and it was surprisingly easy to do.  Just some work on GoDaddy (My Domain Registrar ) and on the Setup Page of my Blogger account.  After making the addition, it only took a few moments for everything to be working.  So my domain - www.georgesheldon.com - is now pointing directly to this site.

Let's hope everything else goes so smoothly,
