All Things Sheldon

Of course, on the things that interests me is the surname “Sheldon.” This page provides some information about Sheldons.

My Genealogy:

I am the great, great grandson of Peter Sheldon. My lineage is:

Peter Sheldon

            George W. Sheldon

                        Harold W. Sheldon

                                    George G. Sheldon

                                                George G. Sheldon, Jr. (me)

I have not been able to connect my great, great grandfather, Peter, to his parents. My great grandfather, George W. Sheldon, was born December 26, 1869. He brought the Sheldon name to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (at least, my lineage) around 1910. When he and his family arrived here, they were spelling the name Shelden. George W. Sheldon (my great grandfather) was from the Pennsylvania-New York-New Jersey border area. My grandfather, Harold W. Sheldon, was born in Sparrow Bush, NY, which is just north of Port Jervis, NY.

Family history tells me that Peter Sheldon was a soldier in the Civil War. I have not been able to locate his official records.

I believe I have found my great-great grandfather in the 1880 Census. At that time, he was 10 and living in Sandyston, Sussex County, New Jersey.  The entry was:

Peter H. Sheldon 47
Sarah J. Sheldon 30
Robert E. Sheldon 14
George W. Sheldon 10
Margaret E. Sheldon 5
Emma E. Sheldon 2

I have not yet been able to make a connection with Peter and Sarah to any other Sheldons, nor do I know any things about Robert, Margaret, or Emma. If anyone has any information about these Sheldons, I’d sure like to hear about it.
